Installation/ Art Experience

Holding Space "Ahead of Time" By Maria Bilbao·herrera

Saturday/sábado 27.11

19:00h Bcn/ 14:00h Ccs

Holding Space “ahead of Time” Installation/art Experience by Maria Bilbao·herrera (Cofouder Nodoccs)

Holding Space "Ahead of Time": is committed to examine the possibilities of redefining our digital encounters by treating them as containers to experience a shared attitude towards the future without using words, but experiencing #digitalhumanness through silence, music, sound and movement/stillness. Holding space: "Ahead of time" is the second of of a series of art experiences proposed by interdisciplinary artist Maria Bilbao·Herrera for Encouraged crossovers. "For the last couple of years I have been developing performances and collaborations inspired on the works of avant-garde artists- a reinterpretation of an attitude, an openness that enables new worldviews, and open the door to alternative ways of being.." The Non-location Specific Piece Is Conceived To Be Happening In 3 Located Spaces At The Same Time: Los Galpones (Caracas), University of Agder (Norway) and The Digital Space (Where people can attend), These Spaces Will Come Together In An Installation In Caracas. Live Experimental Music by Bernardo Risquez (CCS) remixes live by Kristian Isachsen (Kristiansand). The installation includes Sound, Music, Video and a Collective Live Online Performance By Those Who Attend: Together It Will Create A Hybrid Space That We Can All Be Part Of No Matter Where We Physically Are.

Performance to be carried out with elements of Asian traditions and resources that will provide the nocturnal landscape of Lisbon in the vicinity of the Tejo River. This contraposition of the body in front of a light source to produce a static gesture is born from the need to establish a metaphor that goes from fishing in the wind to swimming against the current in these times.

The composer, Pauline Oliveros, who passed away in November 2016 at the age of 84, was a legendary composer and pioneer in the progression of groundbreaking experimental electronic, drone, minimalist, and ambient music. Oliveros created “Deep Listening”—works that challenge the lines between performer, audience, and composer.

- “Pauline Oliveros was the beloved, reigning queen of Downtown experimental music since the 1960s,” said Limor Tomer, General Manager of MetLiveArts. “Her practice of ‘Deep Listening’ influenced many composers from John Cage to, well, everyone. To honor her, we will be staging an online version of her gorgeous structured group vocal improvisation, Tuning Meditation.”

- Tuning Meditation (1971) is elegantly simple and forms a bond of community through sound. A stunning and perfectly reflective work, it is a shifting chord-mass incorporating the best intentions of the deep listeners who participate. In this encounter, this vocal piece will be performed by attendees. Our cofounder Maria Bilbao•Herrera will facilitate the performance and orient the participants. It begins with a single pitch and builds as other performers pitch and tune in unison, and contribute new pitches.

- Oliveros instructs participants to: “Inhale deeply; exhale on the note of your choice; listen to the sounds around you, and match your next note to one of them; on your next breath make a note no one else is making; repeat. Call it listening out loud.” - Be part of this experience @mariabilbaoherrera #viifestivalvideonodoccs

Annotated Programming: Electronic Music in the face of musical nationalism in Venezuela

by Rodrigo Figueroa

Wednesday/Miércoles 01.12

23:00h Bcn/18:00h Ccs

Online location:

LIVE YouTube Channel nodoCCS

-

Music made with electronic elements introduces not only new sonorities, but also alternative procedures that represent a break with what was considered traditional. In Venezuela, the first advances in electronic music were made thanks to the institutional support of the state, opening a space before academic music, which had as its banner musical nationalism, which favored the development of orchestral music appealing to a national identity. Therefore, the break with tradition contrasted the orchestral epic and the field of experimentation proposed by electronics. This presentation will approach a reflection on this period and its repercussions.

"Tell me a video" is a piece designed by Diana Rangel for the experimental program of the nodoCCS video festival. The experimental program seeks to question the medium of video art through audiovisual and listening experiences, one of these is an audible video screening which will be made up of the voices of poets, film directors, visual artists, teenagers and children from different cities. "Tell me a video" is an audible video screening, that is, an event held for a movie theater, gallery or audiovisual device, whose experience is only listening. "Tell me a video" is in its second edition and this year has received the support of the Goethe Institut South America to be formalized in the form of proposals for screenings for cinemas and listening room on Spotify and Youtube. The presentation of the project and the first screening will be on Youtube LIVE on December 3rd at 20H Barcelona time / 15H Caracas time.
